Frequently Asked Questions

Who are you?

My name's Benno Rice and I'm a software developer in Melbourne. I'm also an election tragic and the kind of guy who not only holds election night parties but enjoys them, too. I'm also the kind of guy that feels we need to be better informed about our electoral process.

What are you aiming to do?

I'm providing a resource for people to see clearly what their vote would do on election day if they voted above the line. If as a result they decide to vote below the line I want that to be as easy as possible.

So why is this important?

Voting above the line is very easy to do but it runs the risk of your personal preference not matching up to those of the party you're voting for. Voting below the line gives you far more control over the process but is time consuming and has a high potential for having your vote not count due to mistakes which are very easy to make if you're trying to fill out 78 boxes.

What's your bias and does this site reflect it?

I am involved with the Greens, however this site is not intended to drive up the vote of the Greens or any other party. If you come across anything on this site that you feel is in anyway partisan, please contact me at benno@belowtheline.org.au and I'll look into it.

Who is developing and hosting this site?

I am. This site was not funded by any political party or action group. The hosting is paid for by me and the site was developed in my own time. If you feel this site has helped you or is useful, you're welcome to donate here:
